Welcome

Weigh Ankor is a blog about fitness, nutrition and living an overall healthy happy life. I will be turning 30 in March of 2014 and have been trying, unsuccessfully, to lose weight all my life. While I tried to keep blogs to mark my process none of them had a title that I felt could live on after I drop the 150 pounds I need to lose to get to my goal weight.

Some of them were about being invisible, a feeling I’ve felt my entire life. Some of them were about turning 30, but then what happens after I turn 30?

Finally I realized I needed one that could focus on the future and not the past, or the immediate future. I needed a blog that could stay with me after I got healthy and could serve as a place for me to continue to stay healthy and active.

So why Weigh Ankor? Well Weigh Anchor and Anchors Aweigh were already taken. But I wanted something that could really speak to me and what I am trying to do. My grandfathers were in the Navy and that has inspired a couple of my tattoos and they’ve always played an important role in my life. The word “weigh” in Olde English infers movement, so the saying Weigh Anchor means to pick up the anchor so the boat can move forward.

I have been overweight my whole life, but since 2006 I’ve been FAT. Like obese to the point that I can’t do much of anything without sweating or breathing heavy. It takes a lot to move my ginormous belly around. To make a long story short I’m ready to Weigh (Move) Ankor (My Fat).

I’m ready to get healthy and to take care of myself. I’m ready to get and stay active. I’m ready to make sure I have a work life balance.

I just hope my excitement stays with me through it all.
