Happy New Year Everyone!
I can’t believe 2017 is already upon us. But it is. There’s a quote that I absolutely love and refer back to every time I think about the length of time something is going to take.
Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.
– Earl Nightingale
Shortly after the May 2016 Update in my About Section, my father passed away. From June to December of 2016 I fell off the wagon. My mom and I both were eating fast food multiple times a day including desserts. It was, and kind of still is, a dark time in our lives. I have hope that 2017 will be a productive year. I have hope that my father will be with me on this journey to lose 150 pounds over the next 12 months. That’s four pounds a week give or take a few weeks. Can I do it? I have no clue, but I’m going to try.
On the calculators it says:
You need 3,172 Calories/day to maintain your weight.
You need 2,672 Calories/day to lose 1 pound a week.
You need 2,172 Calories/day to lose 2 pounds a week.
Which means I need to drop down to 1,172 Calories/day to lose 4 pounds a week. I know this is not an exact science with the gaining of muscle (which I plan to do a lot of).
Also, it’s not safe to drop down below 1,200 calories per day. Women who do so can suffer severe negative health risks because they are entering what health professionals call, “starvation mode.” I am NOT about starving myself EVER. I will round my 1,172 up to 1,200.
When you see 1,200 calories it doesn’t mean that’s all I will consume then go work out and burn one million. The 1,200 calories consumed has to be the number of calories you leave in your body, you do not burn them off. Your body will do that on its own. Share the calories! They are the energy your body needs to do things like think, pump blood, process nutrients etc. etc.
The more research I do, the more I realize health is this perfect balance between 100 balls in the air. If one is off, everything can come crashing down. It’s insane how many notes I have. Notes on fitness, notes on food, notes on meditation. It’s been a crazy road leading up to the new year. I truly believe the time I’ve spent really looking at my life have been productive.
You’re going to start seeing a change in this blog, for the better! I want to start incorporating all seven facets of self-care. I know to some self-care is a dirty word, but it’s easy and everyone understands. Instead of just writing about the physical, I’m going to start exploring the emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, relational and safety/security areas as well. There will be more about this in later posts!
So there it is, my down and dirty January check-in. It’s not perfect and probably will never be. It’s just what’s on my mind and in my planner for the upcoming days.
What are you planning or thinking about this New Year 2017? Let me know in the comments!
